WONG AH LAN

MRS LEONG HOW THENG nee WONG AH LAN

黄亚兰

The Taiping Shuntak Association  sadly lost a very senior member, who was also a pillar of strength,  on Saturday, 6th February 2021, when Mrs Leong How Theng nee Wong Ah Lan passed away from natural causes at the age of 83.  She was regarded as caring, thoughtful and steadfast person who had made countless contributions to the proper functioning of events at our association.

Wong Ah Lan is survived by her husband, Mr Leong How Theng, her three children, along with their spouses and her grandchildren.

She is remembered as a strong woman.  According to her husband, during her younger days, she used to rear pigs in Ipoh and carried the pigs up lorries to be sold. At their current glass shop, she used to carry heavy glass sheets from the delivery lorries up to the attic.

As a senior member of our association, she was regarded as "the advisor" on matters regarding religious and cultural events.  All of us miss her greatly.

The members of Shuntak Association Taiping convey our deepest sympathy and condolences to Mr Leong How Theng and family.  May her soul Rest in Peace.

A New Biginning

It has been quite a while since a post was placed in this blog.  Anyway, today we are back, at the very beginning of the second decade of the 21st century.   It is also a new beginning for our Association, as we just had a large scale reshuffling of our office bearers.  Through our Annual General Meeting, a new Chairman was elected together with a whole new teams of office-bearers.
After holding the post of for the last 20 years, Mr James Foo decided not to contest for the post of Chairman, this time around and Mr Loo Peng Wah was unanimously elected to the post.

To commemorate the event, a low-scale Installation Dinner was held on 11 December 2019.

Members of our association would like to convey our heart-felt thanks and gratitude to our guests from Perak Soon Tak Wui Koon for their singing of traditional chinese songs.  Also thanks, to our guests from Selangor Shun Tak Association.  They too thrilled the diners with their singing.  Together with guests from 13 other local clan associations, they have made our installation dinner a success. .

恭喜发财 Chinese New Year Celebration 2017

The Chinese lunar calendar came to a close by the end of January as we ushered out the Year of the Monkey.  This brought with it the Spring Festival - more commonly known as the Chinese New Year.  On 28 January 2017, the Year of the Monkey became the Year of the Rooster, bringing with it lots of  celebrations.

About  50 members of the Shuntak Association, Taiping, participated in a lunch gathering which was held at the Shuntak Association premises on 30 January 2017, to celebrate Chinese New Year and welcome the Year of the Rooster.

Apart from the buffet lunch, there were lion dances, Choy San, ang pows and awards  for deserving children who excelled in their studies and awards too, for committee members who served the association well.

However, most importantly, the celebration was about the gathering of families and friends sharing traditions together.

Shuntak Association Taiping Celebrating its 120th Anniversary

On 18th June 2016, the Shuntak Association of Taiping celebrates its 120th anniversary.  As such, a grand celebration was organised to commemorate this occasion.  To make it even more meaningful, the Federation of Shuntak Associations of Malaysia have decided to hold its Annual General Meeting at Taiping on the same day, so that guests from the other sister Shuntak Associations around the country could save time and money to attend two major events at one go.  We are very thankful to the Federation of Shuntak Associations of Malaysia for their support.

The day started with the arrival of delegates from Shuntak Associations from other parts of Malaysia to the venue for the Annual General Meeting at Flemington Hotel in Taiping.   Members of Shuntak Association Taiping ( in purple T-shirts) were at hand to welcome the guests.

After lunch, the 18th Annual General Meeting of the Federation of Shuntak Associations of Malaysia was held and carried out smoothly.

In the evening, it's time for our grand dinner.  Guests were greeted by a lion dance troupe. And, the event began with the cutting of the "golden pigs", led by our chairman Mr James Foo.

Everyone had a good time

A good time to catch up with friends

One of the highlights of the evening is the performance of the classical Chinese Cabaret, which was of very high quality by any standard.

A great performance

Equally entertaining  was the short Classic Cantonese Chinese Opera performance.   The performance had the audience wanting more from these top-level performers.

Seldom does one get to see such high standard performance
