Chinese New Year Celebration 2012

The Shuntak Association, Taiping, had its Chinese New Year celebration on the 4th February 2012, at the Association premises. The support from the members was very good. All tables were full and there was plenty of food served. The celebration started with a buffet dinner.

After the food was finished, it's time for the academic award presentation ceremony.


These kids are the winners of the academic prizes for UPSR and PMR exams. Congratulations!



Next event of the night was the lucky draw! This year, instead of hampers, ang-pows and goodie bags were offered. Not all ang-pows are the same! Some contain more cash than others!

The Shuntak Association, Taiping, wishes A Happy New Year, to all members, friends and followers of our blog.

Last year was a very eventful year for our association. Apart from the usual annual activities, a restoration sub-committee was set up to "save" our heritage clan house. Since then, the project was highlighted in various local newspapers and gained support from the Heritage Society, as well as several government agencies. The tempo of this activity will certainly be more up-beat this year as we have got our flyer ready (thanks to Chee Keong again) for more a aggressive fund-raising drive.

This year the Shuntak Association, Taiping, committee has drawn up a list of social / cultural activities for its members and friends, and it is hoped that we will get the same, if not better, support and participation from all concerned :

The first activity on the list is the celebration of Chinese New Year for all members and friends.
There will be the servings of food, food and more food. There will be distribution of 'ang-pows'! Don't worry if you are not eligible for an ang-pow due to your maritial status, for there will be lucky draws too! Then, to encourage the young do well in their studies, awards for members' children who excel in the academic field will be given out. Don't miss this occasion!

Summary of Restoration Plan

As the restoration programme gains momentum, our adviser/consultant, Mr. Teoh Chee Keong, has drawn up a three-dimensional pictorial summary of the plan for restoration of the heritage clan house. It gives a very clear picture of the extent of the work that is supposed to be done and also how the building would look like after restoration. We wish to thank Mr Teoh Chee Keong for his fine contribution.

Article in China Press

China Press newspaper published an article on 6 Dec. 2011 about the development of work done to restore our heritage building in Taiping. This was a follow up on the visit by the pressmen and our advisor Chee Kong on his final stage of the dilapidation study. It is hoped that this article will create more awareness amongst the people to the urgency of the restoration project and that perhaps more people will come forward and offer their kind assistance.

DILAPIDATION STUDY ON THE SHUNTAK ASSOCIATION BUILDING, TAIPING

DILAPIDATION STUDY BY UCSI UNIVERSITY STUDENT - 5TH OCTOBER 2011

On the 5th October 2011, a student volunteer from UCSI Univesity, Kuala Lumpur paid a visit to the heritage Taiping Shuntak Association Building. His mission was to prepare a report after doing a dilapidation study on the building and also to construct a scaled down model of the building.

The student from UCSI University, Mr Kong Kin Hang, looking up at the roof to estimate the damage and also perhaps trying to figure out what those tiny winged creatures are, up there.

After looking up, he looked down, and he did a careful study of the floor. Looks like he saw another group of long-tailed creatures running around the floor, too.


Finally, he did a sketch of the place and maybe take a tip or two from the commercial artist's work that 's found all over the place.

The Taiping Shuntak Association wishes to thank Chee Keong, the lecturer of UCSI and also his student Kong Kin Hang for ever willing to volunteer their service to help in our restoration project. We wish Kong Kin Hang the best in his academic pursuit and future undertakings.

Visit by Taiping Heritage Society, 26 September 2011

The Restoration Project for our old association building has been receiving good response from a lot of concerned citizens. On the afternoon of 26 September 2011, members from the Taiping Heritage Society paid a visit to the old Shun Tak Association building to see for themselves, another piece of heritage, right in the middle of the town, that needs restoration. The chairman of Shun Tak Association Taiping, James Foo, and the Restoration Committee chairman, Tung Lay Chun, were there to guide the visitors around the place. The members of the Taiping Heritage Society were awed at the extent of the dilapidation that the century old clan house has undergone. Constructive advice was given by the members of the Taiping Heritage Society and they have shown great concern and are willing to assist us in our endeavor to restore the building. We are indeed very grateful to them for their support.

Our 116th Anniversary Celebration, 24 September 2011

The Shun Tak Association, Taiping celebrated its 116th anniversary-cum-mooncake festival event on 24 September 2011. This year's celebration began with our annual dinner at Flemington Hotel, Taiping. The support from members was very good.

Our members having a nice time during the dinner. The food was fine and the atmosphere was pleasant but the service was a bit slow.

After dinner, members adjourned to the association hall to listen to a speech by our chairman. Of course, there will be lucky draws and the prizes to be won can be seen on the table next to the rostrum.

A winner of the lucky draw. In fact, all our members and friends who turned up got something. The 'lucky' element is in what you get. If you are lucky you get something valuable and useful. In this way, we usually managed to draw in more members to come -hence the name "lucky draw".

Before we called it a day, our treasurer, Peng Wah, entertained us with a few songs. Unfortunately, a few of our members had left and so they missed this piece of entertainment. Don't worry, just come back next year. All in all, everyone was happy that it has been a very eventful year.
