Ancestral Tablets at Shuntak Association Taiping

ANCESTRAL TABLET

It is the practice of Chinese worldwide to remember the deceased by erecting a memorial tablet or by displaying the photograph of the departed.  It signifies the observation of filial piety by way of ancestral worship.

At Shun Tak Association Taiping , there are a total of 305 tablets dating back to the 1800’s.  It is interesting to note that a piece of wood is wedged at the back of the tablet detailing the date of birth and death as well as the village of origin.

At a later stage, it is our hope to document every single piece of tablet and to methodically arrange them so that the descendants  can trace their roots.
